Job Week 2006

On March 10, I had my first scout job week.
Job week is an annual period in which scout members are required to raise fund by working.
the money will go to the school and the Singapore Scout Association.
And for us?
Just a piece of bagde, called "bumble bee badge". it has three colours(based on your achievement); gold, silver, and bronze, and it is a pride to have one on our uniform.

On that day, we would assemble in school at 8.30
I arrived at 9.
I had a hard time trying not to blame my laptop and Bill Gates for providing me with unstable OS I had to re-install a fresh copy e night before. Not M1 for its broadband connection, trapping me inside the virtual world until early morning. And not O2 and SingTel for aiding me in late nite sms-ing.
But life must go on, so I joined my group and went to Admiralty. Our target.....foreigners staying in landed properties.

A few hours in the area gave me a whole new experience n a deeper understanding about Job Week. Although the word "job" is clearly there, most of the time we ended up asking for donation, after the owner told us that they have nothing for us to do. Here are some of the higlights of my job week.

1. Spent around 5 minutes talking to a lady about her son who is also in scout, and received $20 each(there were 3 of us, so it was like a $60 donation)
2. Washed a big table and six oily chairs for $15
3. Washed a car for $15
4. Swept floor and arranged toys for $20
5. Transferred bags of sand infested with ants, milipede, and centipide into new container, constructed a grimy slide, took out two rolls of super dusty carpet, and got rid of a snake lurking inside it for $50. And just for your information, that place is a kindergarten.
6. Helped to throw some rubbish for $20

We also found some interesting facts like:
1. The fiercer the dog, the more generous the owner is
2. Ex-scouts are generous as well
3. You will get bigger donation when you expected it the least
4. For most singaporeans, the term "any amount will do" simply means $2
