Have you ever missed a bus stop before?
I believe you have had that experience before
Annoying isn't it?
Read this post and maybe you will get a different idea
Missing bus stops happened quite a number of times to me as well
Especially after a long, demanding, and back-breaking hours in hell on earth, hmm I mean school; made worse with burdensome CCA
So when your butt finally settles on the seat inside the air-con bus
All you need is just a soft voice in your head
Telling you to close your eyes and have a short, 15 minutes nap
And when you actually awake, you realised that you indeed have passed many, many bus stops ahead of where you should alight
Today, history repeats itself
I had been quite busy in school and afterwards
One thing leads to another, and I happened to leave CCK at around 9 pm
I should had been a 30-45 minutes ride back to hostel
I was wrong...
So, I was inside 67, on my favourite seat just behind the driver, reading a novel
It had been half the trip when the familiar soft voice asked me to take a rest for a while
I could not resist, and predictably, I ended up to be around NUS Music and Art School when I woke up
After settling down myself with a few curses, I told myself that this is not a big deal
I just need to cross the road, wait for a bus, and be back in hostel in a matter of minutes
Not long afterwards, I took 156
And the story begun
In the bus, I predicted that it would take 10 minutes to reach hostel
So I tried to kill the time by reading my novel
And read I did
Imagine how surprised I was to realise that I was in Clementi Interchange when I looked up from the book
Some familiar animal names escaped from my mouth
And I moved on to 5th berth, waited for my bus
Another 156
This time round, I decided to concentrate a bit more on the road
I was still reading, but I scanned the road sign every 5 minutes
I believed I did so
Therefore, it was a mixture of confusion and schock when I saw "Toa Payoh" instead of "Bukit Timah Road" on the road sign
I desperately jammed my finger to the bell button, alighted from the bus, and crossed to the bus stop on the opposite side of the road
The place had no light and I was alone
Luckily, I did not have to wait for a long time
My third 156 came and I boarded the bus
It turned out that missing a bus stop so familiar with you for three times at night combined with exhaustion could be quite spooky
I needed an answer (actually, I did try to relate bus no 156 and 30 March 2007 to number 23, to find out the mastermind behind this series of unfortunate events, it did not work; by the way, you know that movie "23", right?)
So instead, I had "What if..." scenarios running in my head
It began with the usual
What if I was just too tired to notice the bus stop?
and
What if I was too engrossed in my book that I failed to judge time correctly?
then
What if they changed the route of 156?
until
What if I am actually still in bus 67 and all these are just my dreams?
finally
What if my first 156 crashed, I died, became a ghost, and somehow trapped in the 156 loop forever, travelled from one bus stop to another without being able to find my destination?
(Darn! Even when I was typing this, I felt the goosebumps that occured to me just a few hours ago on the street when I first thought about this possibility)
It seems that I still belong to the earth society
I managed to spot hwa chong bus stop on my last trip
And when I jumped out the bus, my feet hit the ground instead of hovering above it
Finally I was back
Total time taken : 2 hours 30 minutes
Ha3x, maybe I could call this "a near death experience"
